Mariko Sakata is a raw food and plant-based chef, instructor, and a cookbook author. She is the author of Vegan Cheese, the first vegan cheese cookbook published in Japan. (Currently, only available in Japanese. However, an English version may be in development.)
Originally from Japan, Mariko lived in New York for few years as a child. She was deeply influenced by the diverse American culture and after moving back to Japan, decided to return one day. She relocated to Los Angeles in 2005 to pursue a career as a professional makeup artist where she worked on motion pictures, music videos, commercials, editorials, and print advertising.
A long time vegetarian, after going plant-based, her interest in the plant-based culinary world grew rapidly. She especially fell in love with raw food recipes and began experimenting in her kitchen. In 2014, she started this blog to share her passion for raw food and plant based recipes. Mariko strives to keep her food simple, delicious, and easy to make.
She is an experienced educator, and was an instructor at Matthew Kenney Culinary School in Venice, CA teaching raw vegan cooking courses. On top of catering many exclusive events, she has work on the pioneering team of all vegan catering for the new sequels to the motion picture Avatar.
Mariko resides in Los Angeles with her husband and her dog, and splits her time between recipe developing, catering, private cheffing, food styling, and makeup work.
