Restaurant 8ablish has long been on my list of vegan restaurants I wanted to visit in Tokyo. I own their cute little vegan cookbooks so I’ve known about this place for several years. Fortunately, I was finally able to go this trip. A lovely Japanese reader of the blog, Chie, invited me to dinner at the restaurant, so it was perfect.

It’s very cute inside, and they have a section where they sell their original products, cookbooks, and some household goods, etc.

They had a full menu and everything looked great, so we had a hard time deciding what to get. We decided to each order something and share. I also got their house-made pomegranate kombucha, which was very tasty. Kombuchas are hard to come by in a restaurant in Japan so I was surprised.

First up, the assorted appetizers. Sweet potato and coconut mash, soy meat and mushroom naan roll, mushroom confit. Delicious! My favorite was the soy meat naan roll. The naan was more like a tortilla, like a curried soy and mushroom wrap.

We also shared the bread platter. Natural yeast bread with house-made vegan butter. All the bread were excellent with the melty coconut oil based butter.

Chie brought her friend Taemi who ordered this hemp rice salad. On a bed of greens, brown rice, hemp seeds, dried fruits and pomegranates are placed and lemon hemp oil dressing is drizzled over top. The tanginess of the dressing is a good balance against the sweetness of dried fruits, and lightens the starchiness of the brown rice. Another great dish!

This one was my pick, and came highly recommended by the server. Tofu steak with onion chaliapin sauce, served with seasonal grilled vegetables. I gotta say, I am not a tofu steak kind of person usually, but I ordered it because I trusted my server, and she was right. The marinated and sautéed tofu with caramelized onion and red wine sauce was simply excellent!

Chie, ordered off their specials and got the creamy tomato pasta. I love tomato based pastas, so loved this one too. Sorry, no picture because I was busy talking and eating. 

Everything we ordered, and we ordered a lot, was delicious! If you are shopping around the Omotesando area, stop in this place for a solid vegan meal. This place will not disappoint you.

昨日作った手作りオーナメントを白いクリスマスツリーに飾り付け🎄夫の幼少の頃のお気に入りのスヌーピーオーナメントと一緒に❄️1981年の物でヴィンテージのホールマークのオーナメントなんですが、中がダイオラマになっていて、ストーリー性があって面白いんです✨これから毎年一つ、他のバージョンを足していこうと思います😊
